The Truth About “New Year, New Me”

The truth about “New Year, New Me ” is that the entire notion is built on the foundation of diet culture and on the promise of unachievable resolutions masked as “healthy lifestyles”, and I’m tireddddd of it!

If I could roll my eyes into oblivion every time I see posts like that, then I would. (Honestly, a lot of people probably feel the same considering this meme has started to circulate around!)

There’s nothing wrong with you! You don’t need a new you. The old you, the current you, is just right as you are 👏🏾

Just because the year changed doesn’t mean that you can simply disassociate yourself from the previous 365 days or the years and years before that. The first day of the year, the first month of the year (sorry, January) isn’t some special milestone that allows you to shed your previous self like snakeskin. That’s just… not how it works.

This year, I challenge you to embrace every month with the mindset of “New Year, Same You” because you don’t have to change a thing about yourself if you don’t want to!

And if you do want to, then go ahead. But make sure you’re making decisions with YOUR well-being in mind, not society’s impressions/judgments.

I shared a previous post last year about escaping diet culture in the New Year where I discuss setting New Year’s affirmations instead of resolutions, how to protect yourself from diet culture on social media, and how you can make this year all about YOU. You can check that post out here.

Before I let you go, I wanted to let you know that I’m currently taking on new clients. If you want to build a positive relationship with your body, food, and self without dieting at all, then consider booking in for a free consultation call.

With the right tools and support (which I offer in my personalized 1:1 nutrition counseling) you could:

  • Learn to enjoy your food again.
  • Find movement that is enjoyable instead of feeling like a chore…
  • Release the need for self-judgement and guilt when it comes to your body…
  • Discover how to make yourself a priority and manage life stress…
  • Finally, understand why yo-yo diets do not work and why properly nourishing the body does…
  • And begin to make peace with your body and start feeling your absolute best- regardless of where you are today!

If this sounds up your alley, then I’d love to hear from you!
